I’m a software developer by profession and not just because it’s a job. I’ve always liked to work with computers and doing programming. Given the fact I wanted to become a graphic designer specialized in 3D modelling and animation in the first place, I’ve chosen the path of a software developer. I’m spending a good share of my free time with open source projects as well and I enjoy it.
I’ve started with simple HTML and CSS at home in 1996. In fall 1999, during my holidays I did a two week volunteer internship with KL Services AG. At the end of that internship I’ve got a contract for apprenticeship which I happily accepted. In 2000 I’ve started my formal apprenticeship with KL Services AG.
After being done with my apprenticeship I left KL Services AG to run my own business, to do work and learn technology I’ve been interested in, to be not limited within the frame of a company. I’ve done some web design because I also love the creative side of working with web technology and gathered some experience with Typo3 and the Contenido CSM which I’ve both used for client projects.
2007 I’ve been asked by Larry Masters himself, the founder of the CakePHP framework, if I would like to work for him. Which was real surprise and I was suspicious because the Cake Development Corporation is a US based company. After a short period of intensive thoughts about that offer I accept it. This choice was a very good opportunity for myself, I’ve learned even more and improved my skills in this company more than I ever did before in another work environment.
My principles about writing code
I like to write code in a reusable and modular way, I expect from myself and others to have and follow coding standards for formatting and application or framework specific guidelines. Also I honor principles and best practice like KISS and DRY. Programming is a true profession and not just a job for me, I like to work on my open source projects in my after work hours.
For examples of my work checkout the Open Source section of this website. Code talks says it all.
